The City of Quito, which is a world referent for creative tourism, now also leads this trend at a national level by fostering “the Andes Road”.
This experiential ‘road trip’ in the inter-Andean region of the country, is a joint initiative of five destinations located between the cities of Quito and Cuenca with intermediate stops at the main cities: Latacunga, Ambato, and Riobamba, to reactivate the promotion of its attractions.
The “road” proposes to discover and enjoy the culture, traditions, and gastronomy of these areas, through unique experiences to be lived among its impressive and magnificent natural environment, gifted by several national parks with very rich and varied flora and fauna.
This tourism experience aims to promote outdoor activities, at a lower cost, ideal for families with children, young people, adventurers, nature lovers, and sustainable tourism.
Quito will promote, among its endless natural and cultural assets as the magical energy of the center of the world; the richness and heritage of its historic center, UNESCO First World Heritage Site, the fascinating Chocó Andino de Pichincha – Unesco’s seventh Biosphere Reserve – its dazzling viewpoints, the traditional and urban neighborhoods of the city, the natural areas and its exquisite local and international gastronomy, while also betting on the development of rural tourism as a key reactivation factor.
Latacunga, the beautiful Andean corner in the center of Ecuador, known as the ´Tierra de los Mashcas´, will promote its tourist attractions in its rural parishes, its Historical Center, its fascinating Mashca gastronomy, the diversity of cultures, and the experiences that form part of community tourism.
Ambato, ´Ciudad de las Flores y las Frutas´, will promote the activities that can be developed in the heart of the Andes; two fascinating routes such as Los Juanes and Los Sabores; the gallery of volcanoes and will give a boost to the industry and the shopping segment.
Riobamba, ´La Sultana de los Andes´, will promote its historical heritage center, its attractions from the point closest to the sun, natural settings that are doors to the Altar, the traditional flavors of its gastronomic route and community living in its parishes.
Finally, Cuenca known as ´Atenas del Ecuador´, will promote its majestic Cajas National Park; the richness of its Historic Center, declared by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity; the activities and experiences that can be developed in the ravine and in the field and; its powerful gastronomy.
The five cities carried out virtual socializations to more than 280 tourism service entrepreneurs to publicize this project, which was joined by more than 90 key players in the tourism industry, as strategic allies to make this initiative a reality, such as tour operators specialized in road trips, restaurants, hotels, and car rentals, thus obtaining the coupon of offers and the album of experiences of the Camino de los Andes, which can be found at:
