Barcelos inaugurates its House of Creativity

House of Creativity

On Wednesday May 3rd, the Mayor of Barcelos, Mário Constantino, and the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, inaugurated the Casa da Creativity (House of Creativity) in Barcelos, an outstanding equipment that will help support the creative character of the city.

The House of Creativity aims to be the headquarters for the management of Barcelos’ connection with UNESCO and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), turning it into a central point and the axis of a true sustainable development based on creativity. It will be a space for creative experiences, training of the craft community, innovation for the digitization of craft community, and a centre for creative experiences with traditional arts and crafts.

This new facility aims to be a bridge in the promotion of the creative culture in Barcelos and in the cooperation between cities that recognize creativity as a prominent factor in urban development in its economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects.

The House of Creativy will therefore be dedicated to supporting the policy and dynamics of the municipality in its relations with local actors, with the other Portuguese creative cities, with UNESCO, and also the Creative Tourism Network®.

Located in the heart of the historic centre of the city, it was built in the old Casa Ascensão Correia, which was refurbished to accomodate different types of creative activities among the priorities highlighted by the UNESCO Network highlighted: Crafts and Popular Art, Digital Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, Literature and Music.
