This Friday, January 17, Cannes was recognized worldwide for its creativity and sustainable development strategies, as part of a Conference on Creative Tourism, organized by the Cannes Convention & Visitors Bureau, which brought together nearly a hundred professionals and representatives of Cannes culture and tourism, at the Canopy by Hilton Hotel (see program below).

In their opening speeches, the elected officials Mr. Jean-Michel Arnaud, President of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, Elected Delegate for Culture of Cannes, and Mr. Thomas de Pariente, Deputy Mayor, Delegate for International Relations, Tourism, Events and Decentralized Cooperation, emphasized to what extent, whether it is a question of culture or a vision of development, creativity has always been part of the DNA of Cannes and the people of Cannes. These remarks were also illustrated by the Director of Culture of the Cannes City Hall, Maud Boissac, who presented the city’s cultural policy.

The Director of Leisure Tourism, Cannes Convention & Visitors Bureau, Laure Toma Auneau, who created this program, insisted that “this strategy has been real for several years now, thanks to the implementation of initiatives and collaborations aimed at recreating links and placing the people of Cannes at the heart of the tourist ecosystem.”

The creative tourism program also offers travelers of various profiles and the entire population the opportunity to (re)discover Cannes culture and know-how by participating in workshops with local artists and artisans. An innovative strategy that aims to make creativity a differentiating element and a vector of sustainable development, in favor of virtuous tourism, which positions Cannes for its offer of experiences that are both authentic and unique, and also benefits all the people of Cannes, via, in particular, a balanced distribution of tourist activity across the entire territory, throughout the year and between the stakeholders involved.

A program designed and implemented by the Cannes Convention & Visitors Bureau, which received the global CreativeFriendlyDestination label awarded by the Creative Tourism Network® to destinations that focus on this virtuous tourism.

This Friday’s event—as well as the visits to artists and artisans scheduled over the previous days—has indeed highlighted Cannes’s immense potential to position itself at the global level, thanks in particular to the synergies created between the art, culture, and tourism sectors and between public and private stakeholders.

A cohesion that is extremely difficult to achieve, and which makes Cannes a paradigm at the global level” as the director of the Creative Tourism Network®, Caroline Couret, was keen to point out, who shed light on the concept of creative tourism in the world, and the assets of Cannes in particular.

Cannes‘s assets and success earned it the World Trophy for the Best Creative Tourism Strategy, unanimously awarded by a jury of international experts as part of the Creative Tourism Awards.

Other prizes were also awarded to Cannes initiatives, as part of a specific section of the Creative Tourism Awards. The winners were as follows:

Art and creativity were an integral part of the conference, during which Cannes artists and artisans demonstrated their art and talents, by creating in situ, ceramic pieces, sculptures, jewelry, stained glass, and bookbindings, to name but a few, while the creation of a live mural enhanced the speaking rounds!

An event placed under the best auspices will give rise to great future actions.
