The winners of the 11th edition of the Creative Tourism Awards have just been revealed.
Created by the Creative Tourism Network®, the Creative Tourism Awards aim to reward companies, projects, and destinations from around the world that promote creative tourism, a new generation of tourism, characterized by the active participation of tourists in artistic and creative activities.
The international members of the jury had the difficult task of selecting the winners from various modalities, among 192 applications, all of them demonstrating a high level of creativity, authenticity, and sustainability.
The award for Best Creative Experience was awarded to PlaçAlguer, a creative and virtuous project organized by the City of Alghero (Comune di Alghero) to re-cover and promote the intangible heritage and cultural DNA of Alghero, a city of Sardinia (Italy), through wine and culinary experiences, which are attractive for both local and tourists.
PlaçAlguer offers a wide array of visits to the local markets, tasting of Km0 products and traditional recipes, cooking classes, as well as conferences and cultural performances.
The jury, composed of international experts in tourism and creative industries, highlighted PlaçAlguer’s experiential format while recovering and promoting the Alghero’s specific culture, and above all, generating a value chain that benefits to the local stakeholders of different sectors.
The director of the Creative Tourism Network®, Caroline Couret pointed out the way “PlaçAlguer is reaching most of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations while diversifying the tourist offer with a very high added value event. As such, PlaçAlguer is a model of sustainable tourism that completely fits with the Creative Tourism Netwok’s principles.
The Creative Tourism Awards have awarded: Salvador da Bahía – Brasil (Best Creative Destination), Cannes Convention and Visitors Bureau – France (Best Strategy for Creative Tourism Development), Les Escapades, Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Québec (Best Strategy for Creative Tourism Development in Rural Areas), Focus on Women – Spain (Best Creative Travel Agency), PlaçAlguer, Alghero, Sardinia, Italy (Best Creative Experience) ex-aequo com Casa del Agave, Quito-Ecuador, La Cité des électriciens, France (Best Creative Lodging).
