In the Charentes, a region proudly recognised as a CreativeFriendlyDestination, key figures in the region’s creative identity stand out for the way they embody the territory’s spirit through their craft. Among them, FREYA, leather artisan and founder of Atelier‑Boutique FREYA, has become an essential voice in the local creative landscape. Her work reflects the values that define the Charentes: authenticity, precision, natural materials, and a deep connection to place.
In the poetic riverside village of Saint‑Savinien‑sur‑Charente, where the Charente River shapes both the scenery and the imagination, FREYA is part of a thriving artistic community. Surrounded by ceramists, painters, luthiers, and fellow artisans, she contributes to a living ecosystem where craftsmanship is shared, transmitted, and celebrated. Her Atelier‑Boutique is not only a workshop but a welcoming creative refuge — a space where visitors discover the beauty of leather, the value of handmade work, and the joy of crafting something with their own hands.
Through her creations and her participatory workshops, FREYA perfectly embodies the essence of creative tourism: meaningful encounters, sensory immersion, and the transmission of savoir‑faire that strengthens the cultural identity of the Charentes.

Creative tourism allows me to broaden the visibility of my work and to share my passion with people who are genuinely curious. It creates meaningful encounters and strengthens recognition around my craft.
What role does creative tourism play in your artistic practice?
I have always loved Saint‑Savinien — it’s a magnificent village along the Charente, a place that naturally inspires daydreaming and creation. Many artisans have chosen to settle here: leatherworkers, ceramists, painters, luthiers… It’s a true creative ecosystem.
My work fits naturally into the spirit of creative tourism because it allows visitors to discover not only a craft, but also the artistic energy that defines our village.
What can participants expect from the workshop you propose?
In my Atelier‑Boutique, I offer discovery and initiation workshops in leatherwork. Participants explore different types of leather, learn about their unique characteristics, and craft a small leather item they take home. These sessions are moments of conviviality, exchange, and good humour — always guided by kindness and the pleasure of sharing a craft.
What opportunities does creative tourism bring to your activity?
Creative tourism allows me to broaden the visibility of my work and to share my passion with people who are genuinely curious. It creates meaningful encounters and strengthens recognition around my craft.
What added value do you think creative tourism offers to the region?
It offers visitors the chance to discover our living environment from a different angle — not only through the beauty of the landscapes, but also through the people who shape them. They meet passionate professionals, experience authentic exchanges, and see the Charentes through the eyes of those who create here.
In one word, how would you define the cultural DNA of the Charentes?
A land of ocean and rivers, with magnificent bucolic landscapes.
