La Bisbal d’Empordà becomes the first World Craft City in continental Europe

We are very proud to announce that La Bisbal d’Empordà (Catalonia), which is, within Empordanet area, one of the labeled CreativeFriendlyDestination, has been distinguished as the first World Craft City in continental Europe, by the World Crafts Council Europe (WCC-E), and the fifth European city (the remaining four are located on the islands of Scotland, England, Ireland, and Denmark) out of a total of about fifty worldwide.

Coinciding with this international recognition, La Bisbal d’Empordà City Council has launched a campaign to attract artisans to the city: ‘Are you a craftsman? La Bisbal is looking for you, open your workshop! ‘ This initiative is supported by the Department of Business and Labor of Catalonia, to increase the number of workshops that are being installed in the municipality and recreate an ecosystem based on the creative economy.

Crafts, intangible heritage and gastronomy have converted themselves into new purposes for international and local travelers looking for authenticity, and La Bisbal and the Empordanet area are the ideal place to re-discover the local culture by participating in creative experiences with its artists and artisans. Visit Empordanet offers all year long a wide array of activities that enable creative tourists to enjoy an authentic lifestyle, in its charming villages, welcome by friendly people, just one hour from Barcelona (south), from the French border (north), and even less from the Mediterranean Coast.

Congratulations La Bisbal and Visit Empordanet for such a very well-deserved recognition!
