Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole (France) celebrated the World Tourism Day, highlighting its commitment to more virtuous tourism, with the launch of its pioneering program of creative tourism and membership of the CreativeTourismNetwork®, as a labeled CreativeFriendly Destination.
During the event, chaired by Mr. Alain Ferrand, first vice-president of the Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole urban community and president of the Community Tourism Office (OTC), also spoke Ms. Marie-Claire Baills, Director, Perpignan Méditerranée Tourism, Delphine Gaguin, Program Manager, and Mr. Thomas Billard, director of the partner agency B-Holidays, specialized in creative tourism.
They presented the visionary strategy of Perpignan Méditerranée Tourisme, and what is more, in such an unprecedented context for the tourism sector, at the world level.
The director of CreativeTourismNetwork®, Caroline Couret, has therefore underlined the immense potential of the destination to position itself internationally in this growing market, thanks to assets such as the diversity of its territory (*), the authenticity of its craft creative and gastronomic offer, and above all, the innovative vision of Perpignan Méditerranée Tourisme. A vision that allows the entire destination to stand out thanks to a differential offer, based on its DNA, and the creation of a value chain that benefits local stakeholders, from all sectors.
This event also enabled to invite the local population to re-discover their intangible heritage, by participating in creative workshops given by the fourteen local artisans and producers, already partners of the project. The perfect way to celebrate such a growing interest in authentic and sustainable tourism. (please, see the details below).
The success of these days confirmed Perpignan Mediterranean’s strengths within an international network with destinations which, from Medellín to Bangkok, via Barcelona, Quebec, or Tuscany, generate synergies under the CreativeFriendlyDestination label, granted by the CreativeTourismNetwork®.
While many destinations, especially in France, are looking for THE formula that will allow them to survive the crisis, Perpignan-Méditerranée has made a leap towards the tourism of tomorrow, by meeting the demand of new generations of travelers in search of human values, while creating an ecosystem and guarantees in terms of inclusiveness, resilience and governance. The model to follow, in short!
Congratulations to everyone!

Nestled in the heart of a triangle formed by the metropolises of Toulouse, Barcelona, and Montpellier, our territory is a veritable center of worlds, as Dali amused himself to say.
