Creative Tourism in Chile: World recognition in Creativity and Resilience

The International Jury of the Creative Tourism Awards organized annually by the Creative Tourism Network®, world organization for creative tourism – orange tourism decided to add a Special Mention to the existing categories (Destination, Strategy, Experiences, Travel Agency, Accommodation), in order to distinguish the creative tourism initiative that, worldwide, has demonstrated its capacity for resilience and creativity to overcome crises.

This initiative is We Felt Chile, located in the also resilient and creative city of Valparaíso, but with international connections, with creative communities mainly related to the world of felt and weaving as well as other trades, which can also be seen in its store “Miel de Oveja”.

We Felt Chile organizes a wide selection of workshops adapted to all profiles of felt makers, as well as geographical limitations.

Indeed, although these workshops become an attractive offer of a staycation – proximity tourism – in time of restrictions, the programming of on-line activities proposed by WeFeltChile over the last few months has also demonstrated the dynamism of its team, headed by the charismatic artist Gabriela Fernández Coloma, and the growing interest in this type of activity, internationally.

The pandemic has fostered creative hobbies, to be carried out individually or in small groups, allowing at the same time to re-create human bonds and in this, We Felt Chile is undoubtedly the best example, and the radiant Gaby Fernández, the best ambassador!

Its creative environment also makes sense, in the Cerro Alegre de Valparaíso, an inspiring city, the first in Chile to receive the CreativeFriendlyDestination label, for the quality and originality of its proposals, as well as for its unique atmosphere and identity.

From the CreativeTourismNetwork®, we congratulate and thank WeFeltChile for giving the example of good practices in the reactivation and re-invention of the tourism model!
