Arequipa (Peru) joins the CreativeTourismNetwork®.

Already triply recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Creative City of Gastronomy and Learning City, AREQUIPA is the first destination in Peru in receiving the CreativeFriendlyDestination label from the CreativeTourismNetwork®.

In addition to the exceptional nature of its architectural heritage, Arequipa stands out for the wealth of its intangible heritage, its art, its crafts, its gastronomy, and its welcoming population.

Thus it represents an ideal destination for new generations of travelers, in search of authentic and creative experiences. These new travelers will be able to experience the local culture participating in craft workshops, gastronomy, traditional dances, or photography, among a great variety of creative experiences. In this way, Arequipa is consolidated as a destination for quality tourism and long stays.

With this creative tourism program, the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa wants to provide the city with a strategy that not only contributes to the reactivation of the destination, but that allows betting on a more sustainable and inclusive tourism model, based on human values ​​and creativity.

The Scientific Committee of the CreativeTourismNetwork® has highlighted the immense cultural potential and creativity of Arequipa to position itself as an international destination of reference within this booming sector, as well as its adaptation to the Good Practices of Creative Tourism, regarding the creation of an ecosystem in which each citizen becomes an essential actor of tourism, culture, and the local economy.

The mayor of the Municipality of Arequipa, Mg. Omar Candía Aguilar, considers that “orange tourism is a sustainable tourism generator of cultural, economic and social development that encourages the arrival of more demanding tourists with respect to living an incomparable experience from a responsible tourism management of cultural heritage, artisan production, artistic and gastronomic.”

The director of the CreativeTourismNetwork®, Caroline Couret has expressed her admiration for the quality of this proposal and your satisfaction in granting Arequipa the CreativeFriendlyDestination label.
